[TechUkraine&GIZ – UAcreativeindustries] Tech solutions for publishing industry enhancing reading experience

How could Ukrainian authors tell their stories not only through the pages of paper books but also with other tech solutions?

  1. Ukrainian writer and game developer Anton Khusnutdinov (Ant3Dstudio) released the Ukrainian books for children with the AR technology that takes the reader into the world of Nox. Also, the author created 3D comics about Nox’s adventures. These modern books with the images of three-dimensional graphics, augmented reality technology, and supplemented by interactive mobile applications can show scenes in 3D and feel the characters’ emotions, experiences, and atmosphere in which the hero is.

AR books are available on iOS for the iPad and iPhone (requires iOS 13.1 or later):

  • Nox. The Way into the unknown
  • Nox.Through consciousness

2. During Mystetskyi Arsenal 2018, Old Lion Publishing in partnership with Lucky Books and New Cave Media presented the project “MEETING TUKONI“, the story and illustrations by Oksana Bula.

The project of the forest inhabitants Meeting Tukoni was a combination of virtual reality with 360° video, animation, and classical book illustration. Putting on Google Cardboard VR glasses, visitors found themselves inside the book itself and henced in the magic world of Tukoni, created by the illustrator Oksana Bula. This approach to the story let’s expand the common ways of perception, find ourselves in the real forest, and meet the real characters. However, there is more to come — the project invited the reader to become an active participant in the story.

It’s the power of tech solutions that push storytelling and gamification of reading to the next level of imagination and impression.
