Healthtech Innovators from Ukraine at Consumer Electronics Show 2024

In early 2024, Ukraine will take part in the world’s largest electronic conference, the Consumer Electronic Show, held annually in Las Vegas, USA. To join the Ukrainian delegation at CES, startups have passed the national selection and are ready to present their solutions to the entire global tech community.

CES is an international technology exhibition that has been showcasing the world’s leading developments in the tech sector since 1967. CES is exactly that conference, where the first CD, optical disk, video card, plasma panel, Xbox game console, tablet, netbook as well as the latest technological innovations were presented. And what developments will the Ukrainian delegation present in Las Vegas?

We’ve already had stories about agritech, logistics, robotics and human capital management. Now it’s time for comprehensive healthtech solutions.

OptySun

OptySun is a fully self-contained device for rapid water purification and disinfection in any place, including emergency conditions. It can be used both indoors and outdoors. According to WHO statistics, more than 2 billion people lack free access to clean and safe drinking water. Very often, such situations arise due to man-made, natural, humanitarian disasters, wars and other emergency events. At the same time, the use of traditional methods of individual water purification becomes difficult due to the lack of the necessary pressure, consumables, a stable source of electricity, etc.

“Our chosen niche is the innovative market for portable water purification products with a focus on environmentally friendly and smart technological solutions. We chose this niche because of the growing global emphasis on health and environmental sustainability. The demand for portable, efficient and environmentally friendly products is growing, driven by increasing awareness of environmental issues and the need for convenient, safe drinking water solutions in a variety of settings, including outdoor activities, travel and everyday urban life. Our product “OptySun Bottle” with UV sterilization technology and smart connectivity meets modern requirements,” — comments Bohdan Vorobiov, CEO at OptySun.

For OptySun’s bottle operation, it is necessary to have water of any quality and access to sunlight or a source of electricity (battery, network, etc.). The principle of operation is based on a combination of several technologies – ozone, ultraviolet and physical (cleansing from large particles). Device can purify water in almost any condition and kills 99.9% of germs.

“The US market offers significant opportunities due to its size and the high importance placed on health and environmental sustainability. We expect strong demand for the OptySun Bottle as it meets the preferences of American consumers for innovative, healthful and environmentally friendly products. The openness of the market to new technologies and solutions further strengthens our confidence in a successful market entry. In addition, the trend of active recreation and fitness in the US creates a favorable environment for the introduction of our product,” — Bohdan adds.

CheckEye

CheckEye is a cloud-based solution to detect diabetic retinopathy using photographic images of eye fundus through the ML\AI algorithm. According to the International Diabetes Federation, over 537 million people are living with diabetes globally and this number is growing at an alarming rate. Most of these people will develop some form of retinopathy causing reduced vision or, in severe cases, blindness.

“We chose this niche because of its huge social impact. Today, up to 90% of premature deaths in the world are caused by chronic diseases, including diabetes. And the current healthcare system cannot meet these challenges, which is why our AI-based platform allows us to remove the limitations of the traditional healthcare system. Especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas. As the CheckEye team, we are a group of IT, marketing, PR and healthcare professionals from Ukraine. Our previous experience includes digital transformation, cloud solution development, and experience at leading ophthalmology research institutes such as the Filatov Institute in Odesa,” — the founders of a startup, Kirill Goncharuk and Dmitry Sofyna comment.

CheckEye has developed a cloud-based solution to detect diabetic retinopathy using photographic images of eye fundus through the ML\AI algorithm. Photographs can be taken anywhere – from optic retailers to pharmacies – by non-medical staff to be further uploaded to the system for diagnosis. CheckEye will make early detection of diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy prevention easily accessible for all.

“We expect that the US market will provide us with an opportunity to expand our partner network and attract investments to further develop and deploy CheckEye technology. We believe that we are well positioned for success because of our unique approach to solving pressing health issues, our large social impact and our potential to expand into new markets. Our technology can significantly improve the quality of life and increase the average age of healthy life for millions of people, which is our key goal,” — they add.

We wish Ukrainian innovators great success, new customers and strengthening of Ukraine’s reputation as a tech country at the Consumer Electronic Show 2024!
