KYIV, UKRAINE – In the face of immense adversity, Ukrainian innovation is forging tools not just for defense, but for recovery and global stability. Meet the Germina URCM-3000: a formidable, remote-controlled demining system engineered domestically by the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant (KZVV). More than just a machine, Germina represents a crucial step towards reclaiming Ukraine’s fertile lands – vital fields that help feed the world – from the deadly legacy of unexploded ordnance left by Russian aggression.

Recently demonstrated near Kyiv under the guidance of Ukrainian Demining Services (UDS), the national demining operator, the Germina showcased its raw power and sophisticated design. This isn’t an off-the-shelf solution; it’s a bespoke powerhouse born from necessity, leveraging the hard-won experience of UDS deminers (including insights from using Slovak Bozena systems) and tailored specifically to Ukraine’s urgent needs.
Clearing the Path for Harvests
The scale of landmine contamination in Ukraine is staggering, posing a lethal threat to civilians and crippling the nation’s agricultural sector – a cornerstone of global food supply. The Germina URCM-3000 was conceived to directly combat this crisis, designed to operate effectively across:
- Vast contaminated areas: Built for endurance and large-scale operations.
- Challenging climates: Engineered for resilience against Ukrainian weather extremes.
- Difficult terrain: Optimized for the country’s diverse soil and vegetation.
- Specific threats: Equipped to neutralize the dangerous mix of mines and UXO sown across the land.
UDS Technical Director Eduard Drach highlighted the machine’s specific advantages: “So, the manufacturer managed to create a machine that has high productivity, cross-country ability, is easy to maintain, withstands an explosion equivalent to 10 kg of TNT, and ensures the maximum percentage of destruction/neutralization of mines and other UXO. Such a machine will allow demining agricultural land significantly faster”. This capability is fundamental to restoring safety and productivity to Ukraine’s vast farmlands.
Performance Meets Purpose
The Germina is built to work fast and keep operators safe. It can clear a remarkable 10,000 square meters per hour, potentially sanitizing up to 5 hectares (nearly 12.5 acres) daily. Operators command the machine from a safe distance of up to 1 kilometer.

While proudly featuring over 60% local Ukrainian content, the Germina smartly integrates world-class components for peak performance: a fuel-sipping Caterpillar engine (USA), a robust Track One chassis (Italy), and precision Danfoss hydraulics (Denmark).
Its versatility is key. Equipped with detonating chains, a tiller, a manipulator arm, and a multi-use bucket, the Germina can tackle everything from open fields vital for farming to complex zones like trenches, damaged buildings, and forests – ensuring comprehensive clearance.
Field-Proven Power
In its demonstration, the Germina didn’t just perform; it dominated. Tasked with clearing a 100-meter strip seeded with inert training versions of common mines and grenades (TM62, PFM, PTM4, RGD5, RGO), it successfully neutralized all targets. It covered the distance in just 95 seconds, carving a clean 2.7-meter-wide path.
Strategic Rollout, Smart Economics
The impact will soon be felt on the ground. UDS expects delivery of the first five Germina units from KZVV within the first half of 2025 (based on the current date), deploying them to high-priority regions including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson. A prototype is already undergoing rigorous operational testing.
Crucially, the Germina promises significant economic advantages. Projected to cost half the price of comparable imported machines, it boasts a stunning 300% higher productivity rate, according to KZVV. This combination accelerates the pace of demining and stretches vital resources further. KZVV backs its creation with a 3-year warranty and full lifecycle maintenance support.
The demonstration drew high-level attention from Ukraine’s Ministries of Economy and Defence, Emergency Services, Transport Services, the Humanitarian Demining Center, and leading operators. It’s clear recognition: the Germina URCM-3000 isn’t just innovative tech; it’s a strategic asset in restoring Ukraine’s agricultural heartland and ensuring food reaches tables worldwide.
