Ukrainian drone company, DroneUA, has been awarded its third US government contract, marking the largest tender win in the company’s history. This achievement underscores the company’s rapid expansion in the US market and its ability to compete with established corporations.
Valerii Iakovenko, founder of DroneUA, expressed his pride in the company’s success, stating, “We competed against huge corporations, one team from Mexico, and three other American businesses, each with an average workforce of 2,000 people. However, it was the Ukrainians who were able to offer the most flexible and high-quality conditions.”
This latest contract solidifies DroneUA’s position as a federal contractor in the US, opening doors to further opportunities within the government sector. Iakovenko emphasized the importance of Ukrainian businesses expanding globally, stating, “Ukrainian business has to become global. The details of the agreement, the amounts, and the subject of procurement are confidential information, but let the world know that it is the Ukrainians who are doing this.”
DroneUA’s US subsidiary, Futurology, initially opened in Philadelphia in July 2023. Over the past year, the company has made significant strides in the US market, including business registration, office opening, hiring employees, securing government contracts, and initiating collaboration with the US Navy.
Iakovenko also highlighted the company’s commitment to the Ukrainian market, stating, “The Ukrainian market is the first and most important for us. Despite any achievements in foreign markets, we will always pay more attention to the Ukrainian ecosystem.”
FarmFleet: Pioneering Agricultural Drone Services
In addition to DroneUA’s success, Iakovenko’s startup, FarmFleet, is also making waves in the US. FarmFleet offers a specialized online service designed to optimize business processes in the agricultural drone services market. In the fall of 2023, FarmFleet delivered the first batch of agricultural drones from Ukraine to the US.
Iakovenko is optimistic about FarmFleet’s future growth, anticipating a surge in the US agricultural drone market next year. He also highlighted the company’s strategic partnerships, including leading the agricultural committee of the Pennsylvania Agricultural Drone Association and co-moderating a roundtable on agricultural drones at a major drone conference in North America in September, alongside John Deere, the world’s largest agricultural equipment manufacturer.
Expansion Plans and Commitment to Ukraine
DroneUA plans to expand its presence in the US further, with plans to establish operations in several locations within key agricultural universities this year.
Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Iakovenko remains confident in the Ukrainian market and is committed to supporting its development.
