Ukraine’s automotive industry has become one of the fastest growing manufacturing sectors with an already established automotive cluster in Western Ukraine.

Ukraine has a large manufacturing base which historically was focused on heavy industry. Machinery manufacturing continues to be one of the key growth drivers of the Ukrainian economy.

Leading automotive OEMs, as well as component manufacturers (Eurocar, Leoni, Bosch, Yazaki, Kromberg & Schubert, etc) benefit from establishing production in Ukraine due to availability of skilled workers, competitive salaries, proximity to major automotive clusters in Central and Eastern Europe.

Industrial machinery sector in Ukraine is dominated by an extensive network of machine building enterprises involved in production of mining equipment, railway rolling stock, farm equipment, turbo propellers, gas turbines, machine tools, aircraft engines, instrumentation for the light and food industries.

For example, in the Lviv region is working the Discovery Drilling Equipment (DDE) – one of the biggest global machine-building companies of drilling rigs production. Ukrainian Interpipe is a vertically integrated steel pipe and railway wheel company that is among the ten largest producers of pipe products and the third largest producer of railway wheels in the world.

In the era of ACES (Autonomous, Connected, Electric, Shared) technological megatrends that are shaping the global automotive industry, Ukraine also emerges as an important centre of innovation and R&D, with a number of its renowned IT companies already serving the leading global automotive companies.

For example, Sigma Software team has designed and implemented the client-server applications and automated driving technology for Autonomous Yard Maneuvering (AYM) solution for Knorr-Bremse Group, a well-known German manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles on the market for over 110 years.

Ukrainian  innovative engineering company ELEKS represented the integrated solution for each production line with defects controlling for BADER, the leading leather producer for the leading enterprises as Lamborghini, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Tesla, Toyota, and many others are the clients of BADER.

Ukrainioan global IT service provider Luxoft  has partnered with automaker giant Daimler AG to develop an advanced software platform for the infotainment system installed in the latest Mercedes A-class cars.
