In a landmark move that catapults Ukraine’s defense-tech from the workshop to the warzone, the Ministry of Defense has officially commissioned the PROTECTOR unmanned ground vehicle. Developed by the visionary domestic company Ukrainian Armor, this isn’t just an equipment upgrade; it’s the dawn of a new era in ground operations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Forged in the crucible of real-world combat, the PROTECTOR is a heavy-duty robotic platform built for a singular, vital purpose: to execute the most dangerous missions and keep Ukrainian soldiers out of harm’s way. This is battlefield innovation at its most crucial, a direct response to the urgent needs of the front.
A Multi-Role Robotic Powerhouse
Forget single-purpose drones. The PROTECTOR is a modular, multi-role beast designed for ultimate versatility. Its mission portfolio is as broad as it is critical, from hauling up to 700 kg of ammunition and supplies to swiftly evacuating the wounded from active hot zones. Furthermore, it can serve as a stabilized platform for robotic combat modules or deploy mobile Electronic Warfare (EW) and Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) systems.
Powered by a robust internal combustion engine and an all-wheel-drive system, the PROTECTOR is engineered to conquer the unforgiving Ukrainian landscape. It can traverse formidable obstacles, ford water, and thanks to its RunFlat tires, keep moving even when damaged. With an astonishing operational range of up to 400 km, it brings persistence and reliability to unmanned logistics.
The New Rules of Ground Warfare
This deployment represents a core philosophical shift in military strategy, a point powerfully articulated by Deputy Minister of Defense Valeriy Churkyn. “This is effectively a new branch in the evolution of ground robotic systems – a full-fledged unmanned vehicle”, Churkyn stated. “These are new opportunities for our soldiers, namely, the execution of dangerous tasks without risking personnel”.
He emphasized the urgency of this technological integration at the tactical level, adding, “It is crucial that technologies get closer to the trenches, so that innovative tools of war work more for and on behalf of our soldiers. Combat units must be maximally reinforced with robotic systems”.
