Ukrainian Green Startups Competed for Victory at the Green Pitch Day

On August 12, Kyiv hosted Green Pitch Day, which brought together the talents of Ukrainian entrepreneurs and laid the foundation for a community of a new generation of green innovators.

During the event, 20 teams at the pre-seed and seed-round stages presented their climate-friendly business ideas, received feedback from an expert jury, and competed for the championship.

Whose presentations won?

The first part of the Green Pitch Day featured the ideas of teams that took part in the global competition of innovative ideas ClimateLaunchpad, which has been organized by Greencubator in Ukraine for the 8th year in a row. They will represent Ukraine at the event this fall.

The following teams have been selected for the Regional Final from Ukraine at ClimateLaunchpad:

  • First place: Melt Water Club (technology for producing drinking water);
  • Second place: Mycelia Tech (materials from mycelium, agro-waste);
  • Third place: TomorrowPack (reusable packaging for commerce).

In the second block, the participants of the first edition of Greencubator.Academy, which trains and accelerates startups from the idea stage, presented their business ideas, business models, business solutions, and green business solutions.

The following teams showed the best pitches among this cohort:

  • First place: Rekava (a brand of biodegradable coffee grounds products);
  • Second place: SOLAR PLEX (solar panel hybridization);
  • Third place: FlushWave (water reuse system).

Jury members and participants

All participants received feedback and advice from invited experts. Presentations of the ClimateLaunchpad teams were evaluated by: Dmytro Petrov – Investment officer of the Green Growth Fund (GGF TAF), Alina Bocharnikova – Social entrepreneurship development coordinator at Future Development Agency, Anastasia Sleptsova – Digitizing.Space, Civic Ukraine impact fund and Yuriy Vlasiuk – Maker Hub, Ukrainian Maker Association. For the Greencubator.Academy teams: Ivan Petrenko – Angel One Fund, CfE Accelerator, Andriy Medvedenko – Investment Associate at CYFRD, Ajax, and Mykola Shlapak – Environmental and Climate Consultant.

 

In general, the following teams presented their business ideas during the Green Pitch Day:

  • TomorrowPack (provides reusable e-commerce packages that are good for the planet and easy to use);
  • LUAZ Care (developed a communal electric car for people with disabilities for urban and rural areas);
  • Sistan Varvara (produces clothes made from fabrics created from recycled sources (leftover and stocks of materials and fabric scraps, recycled second-hand clothes);
  • Melt Water Club (developed a technology for producing premium drinking water using the innovative Freezing Process technology);
  • Skat Energy (developed Virtual Power Plant technology for battery owners to save electricity and earn money by selling it to the grid);
  • SEVEC (creation of parking charging stations for micromobile electric vehicles);
  • Greenmaker (an inventory of planted trees and a map of events for volunteers and eco-projects;
  • Plasma chemical method (the idea of economical use of natural resources, in particular, water using the plasma method);
  • Mycelia Tech (produces eco-friendly materials from mycelium, agricultural waste);
  • WildfireUA (development of a product that combines satellite information, fire forecasting and emissions modeling to analyze forest fires and their impact on air quality and human life);
    rekava (a brand of biodegradable products, disposable tableware based on coffee grounds, craft candles);
  • Brayton Power (a cogeneration unit with a thermal capacity of 10 kW and an electric capacity of 1 kW);
  • FlushWave (an automated system that allows used water from washbasins and washing machines to be reused for sewage and lawn watering);
  • EcoSink (production of eco-soap dishes made of recycled plastic that do not require washing);
  • Green planet (plans to produce durable paving stones and street tiles from recycled materials and plastic);
  • SOLAR PLEX (provides services for the modernization of conventional PV panels into hybrid ones);
  • Eco-shop (a store of handmade products and zero-waste materials);
  • Vacuum Gravity Energy (vacuum-atmospheric power amplification technology for generating decarbonized electricity).

At the end of the event, participants, jury members, investors, and guests had the opportunity to informally exchange thoughts, contacts, and ideas that contribute to the development of both the business teams and the green startup ecosystem as a whole. This is how Green Pitch Day turned out to be, showing the beginning of the transformation of green business ideas into sustainable businesses and demonstrating the talents of Ukrainian eco-innovators!

The Green Pitch Day is organized by Greencubator, a partner of the ClimateLaunchpad National Competition in Ukraine.
