The Ukrainian Armed Forces are set to benefit from two groundbreaking developments in ground-based defense technology, highlighting the critical role of covert operations in modern warfare. One development has already been approved for delivery, while the other has successfully passed certification.

Foxtac: Unmanned Evacuation Transporter
The Foxtac is a domestically produced, unmanned, ground-based robotic platform designed for logistics and casualty evacuation. Its near-silent operation and low profile (up to 40 cm) enable discreet evacuation operations in the field. The transporter can carry up to 150 kg of cargo, including wounded soldiers in full combat gear or ammunition. It can be easily transitioned from transport to operational mode within minutes. The platform is controlled remotely or via a wired control panel, allowing a combat medic to direct its movements. Additionally, Foxtac can be equipped with tracking devices to locate it in case of communication loss with the evacuation team. The Foxtac has already undergone successful preliminary testing.

Zmiy: Mine Clearing Machine
The Zmiy mine-clearing machine, developed by the Ukrainian company Rover Tech, has successfully passed field tests and received certification. It can operate in areas with low to medium vegetation and is capable of neutralizing anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as removing tripwires. The Zmiy is significantly more affordable than its foreign counterparts, costing between $14,500 and $20,000 depending on the configuration. Its lightweight design allows it to clear up to 2.5 hectares per day, and it can be remotely operated from a distance of up to 2.9 km. The machine can be deployed or stowed in under 15 minutes and transported on a trailer. Its components can be quickly replaced if damaged by anti-tank mine explosions, ensuring rapid return to operation.

Significance for Covert Warfare
These innovations underscore the increasing importance of covert warfare elements, such as casualty evacuation and mine clearing, which are essential for protecting soldiers’ lives and ensuring operational success. The Foxtac’s ability to discreetly evacuate wounded personnel minimizes the risk of further casualties, while the Zmiy’s efficient mine-clearing capabilities enable safer movement and maneuverability for troops.
These advancements in defense technology demonstrate Ukraine’s commitment to developing innovative solutions that address the evolving challenges of modern warfare, particularly in the realm of covert operations.
