The Ukrainian tech scene is a hotbed of innovation, even with the ongoing conflict and economic headwinds. Case in point: Elai.io, a startup that lets you create AI-powered avatars who can deliver presentations in your own voice, has just been acquired by US-based Panopto, a leader in video learning technology.

This isn’t just any startup. Earlier this year, Forbes Ukraine recognized Elai.io as one of the top 25 most promising Ukrainian startups, chosen from a pool of over 300 contenders. They’ve clearly caught the eye of investors and industry giants alike.
But how did Elai.io come to be? It all started about four years ago with co-founder Oleksandr Uspenskyi, who was searching for a unique business idea. He stumbled upon AI-driven video generation and saw its potential. Recognizing this potential, Uspenskyi, a skilled developer, joined forces with Vitalii Romanchenko, who brought over a decade of experience in product management and marketing, to launch Elai.io.
They soon realized they needed a third co-founder with deep AI expertise, and that’s where Oleksii Pshenychnyi came in, leading the development of their realistic digital avatars.
Panopto, with its focus on educational and presentation video solutions, is a natural fit for Elai.io’s technology. Imagine a world where instead of static slides, you have a dynamic AI avatar delivering engaging training materials – that’s the power this acquisition unlocks.
“With the addition of Elai’s AI solution to its platform, Panopto is now the only video solution capable of supporting the full lifecycle of on-demand video,” Elai.io shared on LinkedIn.
While the deal’s financial details are under wraps, our colleagues at Dev.ua gained some insights from Oleksandr Uspenskyi in a recent interview. He highlighted Elai.io’s new real-time avatar feature and their focus on interactive learning tools. He also revealed that they’re heavily invested in the enterprise market, with US companies forming the bulk of their clientele.
“Corporate checks for us start at $4,000 per year. Or rather, they used to. Now with Panopto, I think they’ll be bigger,” Uspenskyi quipped to Dev.ua.
And what about the Elai.io team? Will they be packing their bags for the US? Not at all! Both companies embrace a remote-first culture, so the team can continue their work from wherever they are.
This acquisition is a testament to the Ukrainian tech spirit: resilient, innovative, and ready to take on the world.
