In a strategic move to synchronize European defense capabilities with real-world technological evolution, Brave1 and the French Defence Innovation Agency (Agence de l’innovation de défense) have signed a Letter of Intent to launch Brave France. This bilateral program, slated for a Q2 2026 launch, marks a significant deepening of the technological alliance between Kyiv and Paris.

The partnership is designed to move beyond traditional defense procurement, focusing instead on the rapid development and deployment of cutting-edge solutions through a structured, collaborative framework.
The Brave France Roadmap
The initiative establishes a comprehensive ecosystem for defense contractors and tech startups from both nations. Key pillars of the collaboration include:
-
Bilateral Grant Program: Joint financial support dedicated to scaling high-impact Ukrainian and French defense innovations.
-
Strategic Hackathons: Intensive sessions aimed at solving immediate battlefield challenges and nurturing early-stage defense startups.
-
The “Test in Ukraine” Integration: Providing French innovators access to Ukraine’s unique testing infrastructure, allowing for the validation of technologies in authentic operational environments.
A Synergy of Expertise and Experience
The collaboration is built on a foundation of mutual strategic necessity. According to the initiative, the partnership creates a unique feedback loop:
“For Ukraine, this partnership creates opportunities to attract advanced technologies from allies. For France, it offers access to unique, real-world experience in modern warfare — experience that is currently unavailable anywhere else in the world”.
By merging France’s advanced industrial tech base with Ukraine’s unprecedented experience in high-intensity, tech-driven conflict, Brave France aims to set a new standard for European defense interoperability.
Ukraine: The Shield of European Stability
The launch of Brave France serves as a potent reminder that the frontier of European security is increasingly digital and innovation-led. Ukraine, powered by its heroic workforce and a relentless tech sector, currently stands as the primary guardian of stability on the European continent.
As modern warfare undergoes a rapid paradigm shift, the Brave France initiative underscores a broader message to the European Union: the time for passive observation has passed. For the EU to ensure long-term security, it is imperative to move toward deeper, more active technological integration with Ukrainian developers and startups.
Next steps involve finalizing the funding mechanisms and establishing a joint coordination body to oversee the first wave of projects this spring.
