The year 2024 has witnessed a remarkable surge in investments in Ukraine’s Defense Tech industry, exceeding $12 million. This figure represents a twofold increase compared to the entire previous year, according to data from the defense technology cluster Brave1.

Innovation Hub

The Brave1 platform boasts an impressive catalog of over 2,600 innovations from more than 1,200 domestic manufacturers. Flourishing markets have emerged in sectors such as UAVs (over 500 companies), ground robotic systems (over 160 manufacturers), and electronic warfare (110 manufacturers).

Investor Confidence

Both Ukrainian and international investors are increasingly drawn to Ukraine’s Defense Tech industry. This growing interest stems from the proven effectiveness of Ukrainian developments on the battlefield and their competitive pricing compared to European or American counterparts.  

Top 15 Investors

AIN.UA’s research identified the top 15 Ukrainian and international funds and accelerators investing in Defense Tech startups, ranked by investment amount. While this list represents publicly disclosed investments, it underscores the significant activity in the sector.

Key Players

  • Brave1 (Ukraine): A state-backed cluster fostering the development of Ukraine’s Defense Tech market. Since its launch in July 2023, Brave1 has awarded 263 grants totaling $4.96 million and 46 grants worth 67 million hryvnias. It also attracts private investment, exceeding $12 million since the beginning of the year.
  • u.ventures (Ukraine & USA): Founded in 2017 by the Western NIS Enterprise Fund, u.ventures focuses on investing in technology startups, including those in the Defense Tech sector.  
  • Ukrainian Startup Fund: A state-backed initiative supporting innovative and technological projects in their early stages.
  • International Investors: Several international funds and accelerators, such as YZR (Germany), 42CAP (Germany), Green Flag Ventures (USA), and Radius Capital (USA), are actively investing in Ukrainian Defense Tech startups.
