Meet TERMIT: The Modular, All-Terrain UGV Greenlit for Ukraine’s Armed Forces

In a significant boost for Ukraine’s domestic defense technology, the Ministry of Defence has officially codified and approved the TERMIT unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for military use. Developed by the Ukrainian manufacturer Tencore, this rugged, tracked platform is set to bring a new level of versatility to the front lines.

The TERMIT is not just another drone; it’s a testament to Ukraine’s ingenuity in asymmetric warfare. This isn’t a prototype taking its first steps. According to the Ministry of Defence, earlier iterations of the platform are already battle-hardened, serving with over 20 brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in crucial logistics and reconnaissance missions. This new, officially sanctioned version boasts enhanced dynamics and a design ripe for future upgrades.

“Thanks to its low-slung silhouette, low center of gravity, and tracked chassis, this ground robot can navigate diverse and difficult terrains: heavy off-road conditions, steep slopes, and trenches”, state officials from the defense department.

A Swiss Army Knife on Tracks

What makes the TERMIT a true game-changer is its profound modularity. Tencore has engineered a platform that can be rapidly adapted for a multitude of missions. Need to lay down suppressive fire? Mount a Browning machine gun or an MK19 grenade launcher. Need to resupply a forward position or evacuate the wounded? Its impressive 300 kg payload capacity turns it into a tireless logistics workhorse.

But the customization doesn’t stop there. The platform can be configured for specialized tasks like mining or, crucially, as a mobile communications hub. One of the most forward-thinking options is the integration of a Starlink mini terminal, ensuring resilient satellite communication in contested environments. Further optional upgrades include enhanced armor, a winch module, and the “Bumbox” electronic warfare (EW) system.

TERMIT at a Glance:

  • Platform Weight: 280 kg
  • Payload Capacity: 300 kg
  • Top Speed: 10 km/h
  • Operational Endurance: Up to 12 hours
  • Travel & Control Range: Up to 20 km
  • Base Cost: Starting from $12,000

With its robust design and chameleon-like ability to adapt, the TERMIT UGV represents more than just a piece of hardware. It is a symbol of Ukraine’s resilient and innovative tech sector, delivering powerful, home-grown solutions directly into the hands of its defenders. The official green light from the Ministry of Defence will now pave the way for wider deployment, further cementing the role of unmanned systems in Ukraine’s fight for freedom.
