Green Future Hackathon: Empowering Ukraine’s Youth to Shape a Sustainable Tomorrow

The Ukrainian Leadership Academy, in collaboration with Radar Tech, is thrilled to announce the Green Future Hackathon, an exciting opportunity for young innovators to develop IT solutions (mobile apps or web platforms) that will raise awareness about the European Green Deal (EGD) and encourage active youth participation in its implementation. The most successful and innovative ideas may even be proposed to the EU for further scaling!

Young Energy – Green Energy!

On September 21-22, 80 ambitious young innovators from across Ukraine will gather in Kyiv for the two-day Green Future Hackathon to brainstorm and create the best innovative solutions for a greener future for Ukraine.

The Green Future Hackathon is a quest for solutions to increase youth awareness and engagement in the implementation of the European Green Deal. Young Ukrainians with creative minds have the power to create unique IT solutions for energy efficiency and conservation. This will be our collective response to “energy terror” and an additional layer of protection for Ukrainian energy. Shaping energy-efficient awareness and knowledge among Ukrainians on these issues will undoubtedly have an impact on all aspects of the country’s life in the future.

The Challenge

The Green Future Hackathon challenges young and creative individuals to develop, in two days of teamwork, a digital tool that:

  • Can quickly and professionally find optimal individual solutions for energy efficiency and conservation for each user.
  • Engages young people in environmental initiatives (e.g., through game elements, tasks, participation in events, etc.).
  • Explains everything about energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the European Green Deal in simple language.

Have you done enough for the country’s energy security?

Do you know how to save electricity? How to save your own budget through energy efficiency? What simple engineering or cosmetic solutions can be implemented in your home or workplace? What is a simple and cheap way to generate additional energy? What is the Climate Agreement, the European Green Deal (EGD), and what does it have to do with European integration and the future of every Ukrainian? The platform created during the Hackathon should provide quick and easy answers to all these questions for every user.

Who Can Participate?

Register for the hackathon if you are between 18 and 35 years old and have experience or skills in IT solution development. We are looking for teams of 3 to 8 participants. To participate in the hackathon, at least 60% of the team must be physically present in Kyiv on September 21-22; other participants can join online. We also accept applications from individual participants with experience in the IT field – we will help you join existing teams or create your own.

Prizes

The winning teams of the Green Future Hackathon will receive cash prizes:

  • 1st place – 150,000 UAH
  • 2nd place – 75,000 UAH
  • 3rd place – 35,000 UAH
