In a significant move bridging Ukrainian innovation with German engineering prowess, Kyiv-based Defence Tech startup Frontline and the renowned German drone manufacturer Quantum-Systems have officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signaling a powerful new partnership in the defense technology arena.

Announced via an official press release from Frontline, this collaboration is set to turbocharge the production and integration of cutting-edge defense solutions. The agreement maps out a comprehensive plan encompassing:
- Technological and Industrial Synergy: Combining the strengths of both companies for advanced manufacturing.
- Joint R&D Ventures: Co-developing next-generation defense technologies.
- European Ecosystem Integration: Weaving Ukrainian innovations into the broader European defense framework.
A key focus of the partnership is scaling up drone production within Ukraine, implementing state-of-the-art management systems, and strategically localizing component sourcing within Europe.
Integrating Innovation:
Crucially, the MoU paves the way for integrating Frontline’s proprietary technologies into Quantum-Systems’ advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This includes embedding Frontline’s solutions into Quantum’s flagship electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) drones, the Vector and Twister, as well as their modular Drone Port infrastructure, designed for autonomous, real-time aerial reconnaissance.
Meet the Players:
- Frontline: Though only founded in August 2023, Frontline’s roots run deep. Its founders have been developing and deploying critical technology for the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2014. The company specializes in reconnaissance drones like Zoom and Linza, and robust ground-based robotic combat modules, such as the “Buria” turret (designed for the Mk 19 40mm grenade launcher). A standout feature of Frontline’s tech is its proprietary communication platform and GPS-independent visual navigation systems – vital for contested environments.
- Quantum-Systems: A German powerhouse founded in 2015, Quantum-Systems excels in developing innovative eVTOL UAS. Their platforms are engineered around AI, edge computing, and real-time autonomous analytics. With a global footprint including the US, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania, Quantum-Systems focuses on delivering superior situational awareness for defense, security, and critical infrastructure protection.
High-Level Endorsement:
The strategic importance of this partnership was underscored by the presence of high-profile figures at the signing ceremony, including Herman Smetanin, Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industries, and representatives from the German Embassy. Signing on behalf of Quantum-Systems were Co-CEO Sven Kruk and Head of the Ukrainian Office Oleksandr Berezhnyi. Frontline was represented by CEO Yevhen Tretiak and CTO Pavlo Kosolapkin.
This collaboration marks a pivotal step in bolstering defense capabilities through shared expertise and advanced technology, promising exciting developments in the UAS landscape for both Ukraine and Europe.
