Petcube Founder Shifts Focus to Military Tech, Launching Two Startups for Autonomous Drone Navigation

Yaroslav Azhnyuk, the entrepreneur behind the successful pet tech company Petcube, has ventured into the defense technology sector with the launch of two military tech startups: The Fourth Law and Odd Systems. This move marks a significant shift for Azhnyuk, whose previous venture, Petcube, was valued at $36-50 million by Forbes in 2021.

Azhnyuk’s foray into defense innovation began in November 2023, driven by a desire to contribute to Ukraine’s defense efforts. His two new startups are focused on developing advanced autonomous navigation systems for FPV drones. The Fourth Law creates the guidance system itself, while Odd Systems manufactures the “Stus-7” FPV drone, designed to be compatible with this technology.

The Fourth Law’s guidance system allows drones to fly autonomously for the last 400 meters of their flight, overcoming challenges with accuracy, Russian electronic warfare, and loss of control in challenging terrain. This technology has already been integrated with over 30 different drone models.

In addition to equipping the “Stus-7” drones, The Fourth Law sells its guidance system to other FPV drone manufacturers and licenses the technology for production. While details about clients and contract values remain confidential, Azhnyuk has confirmed that the system is in high demand.

Funding for these ventures comes from Azhnyuk’s personal investment, as well as from American and European funds and angel investors, including individuals from the Ukrainian diaspora. Although The Fourth Law hasn’t secured government contracts yet, there’s strong interest in their autonomous systems from those who have.

This shift from pet tech to military tech highlights the adaptability and innovative spirit of Ukrainian entrepreneurs in the face of the ongoing conflict. Azhnyuk’s new ventures demonstrate a commitment to leveraging technology for national defense and contributing to a crucial aspect of modern warfare.
