CheckEye, a Ukrainian health tech startup using AI for disease screening, wins EIT Health InnoStars Awards

Ukrainian startup CheckEye, which uses artificial intelligence for disease screening, has become the first Ukrainian company to win the prestigious international EIT Health InnoStars Awards.

“This victory symbolizes a new era for the Ukrainian medtech industry, highlighting the ability of Ukrainian teams to create breakthrough technologies that not only change the approach to healthcare but also define its future on the world stage,” the startup said in a press release.

Founded in 2022, CheckEye uses artificial intelligence for mass screening of chronic diseases. The platform combines the experience of Ukrainian medical practitioners and leading scientists from the Filatov Institute with technology for accuracy and scalability of analysis.

“Two years of implementing innovations in the face of a full-scale war have proven their effectiveness in Ukraine and have been recognized by Europe. This victory opens up opportunities for scaling our experience to the EU and the whole world,” said Kyrylo Goncharuk, founder and CEO of CheckEye, who presented the startup in the final on the main stage in Budapest.

He added that he is pleased that the European community “recognizes the importance and timeliness of such innovations” offered by CheckEye.

The EIT Health InnoStars Awards is a leading program founded by the European Commission in 2016 that supports startups from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. The program aims to develop healthcare innovations by providing access to international markets, partnerships and funding.

This summer, it became known that the CheckEye platform began operating in the German market..

Recently, the EIT Jumpstarter program named a Ukrainian startup that won in the Rebuild Ukraine category. In total, 10 startups from Ukraine were shortlisted, which were nominated in the categories EIT RawMaterials, New European Bauhaus, EIT Urban Mobility and Rebuild Ukraine.
