Ukraine’s homegrown armored logistics drone, affectionately nicknamed the “Zmiy” (Snake), has just slithered its way into NATO’s good graces! This incredible machine, developed by the brilliant minds at Rover Tech, has officially received NATO codification, meaning it meets the alliance’s highest standards for military technology.

A True Multitasker:
This rugged robot isn’t just a pretty face. Weighing in at a mere 650 kg, the “Zmiy” can haul a whopping 500 kg of cargo in its belly or tow a trailer weighing up to 1050 kg. Need to deliver critical supplies to troops in the field? No problem! Evacuate wounded soldiers? “Zmiy” to the rescue!
Tough as Nails:
But wait, there’s more! This mechanical marvel boasts impressive armor, capable of withstanding drone strikes and even running over anti-personnel mines (as demonstrated in a thrilling video released by Rover Tech). Talk about taking a beating and keeping on ticking!
Built for Speed and Agility:
With a range of 30 km and a top speed of 14 km/h on solid ground (13 km/h off-road), the “Zmiy” can navigate trenches, climb steep inclines, and even clamber over small fallen trees. This is one determined drone that won’t let any obstacle stand in its way!
Remote Control and Beyond:
Operators can control the “Zmiy” from a distance of 2.9 km using a remote control, or extend that range to 6 km with an optional fiber optic cable. And if that wasn’t enough, the “Zmiy” can also be used for remote minelaying and equipped with various combat modules.
A Proud Legacy:
The “Zmiy” is based on Rover Tech’s successful demining drone, which aced its tests in September 2024. This earlier model, capable of clearing both anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, is significantly more affordable than its foreign counterparts, costing between $14,500 and $20,000.
A Symbol of Ukrainian Innovation:
The “Zmiy” is more than just a machine; it’s a testament to Ukrainian ingenuity and resilience. This homegrown hero is making a real difference on the front lines, and it’s something every Ukrainian can be proud of. With the “Zmiy” on our side, victory is slithering ever closer!
