This summer, Kyiv isn’t just the heart of Ukraine; it’s ground zero for the future of defence technology. The audacious Darkstar coalition is sounding the battle cry, launching its Future Army Bootcamp 4 and hunting for the sharpest minds in defence tech. Their mission? To find and fund the developers of next-gen interceptor drones, mid-range strike systems, and potent alternatives to the ubiquitous Chinese DJI drones.

Forget theory; this is about battlefield reality. Darkstar lays it bare: “Let’s be brutally honest: Ukraine can only win when the global tech community delivers bleeding-edge solutions at lightning speed. And the only true test that matters? Combat. Too many startups and top-notch defence solutions have utterly failed under fire. The best defence tech is still being forged – right now – in Ukraine”. This isn’t just a bootcamp; it’s a crucible where innovation meets the unforgiving demands of modern warfare.
Got a product that’s at least TRL 5 or 6, or even better, already tasted combat? Darkstar wants you. The most formidable teams won’t just get a pat on the back; they’ll secure paid contracts throughout the bootcamp and a shot at a game-changing $1 million in investment.
The call is out for anyone pushing the boundaries in drone technology, essential components, missile systems, visual navigation, or reconnaissance. Darkstar’s message is direct and unwavering: “If you are building anything related to drones, components, missiles, visual navigation, reconnaissance systems – we want to talk to you ASAP… If you are dead serious – or know someone who is – we are here for the next decade to build the Army of the Future! And to defend the world from orcs”.
Ragnar Sass, a co-founder of DarkStar, paints a picture of the bootcamp’s ethos: an “intensive, fast-paced environment where defence innovators, military experts, and startup founders create real solutions for real problems on the battlefield”. This is where ideas transform into deployable assets.
Darkstar isn’t new to fueling Ukrainian ingenuity. Their track record speaks volumes. Last autumn, they injected €600,000 into Farsight Vision, a Ukrainian-Estonian battlefield intelligence startup, a story TechUkraine covered here. They also previously ignited the future of drone warfare with a €600,000 investment in Deftak, significantly bolstering Ukrainian and NATO capabilities.
The window of opportunity is closing. Innovators ready to step up can register for the Future Army Bootcamp 4 on the DarkStar website until June 10th.
Who is Darkstar?
They are a formidable alliance of over 30 startup founders (including several who’ve built unicorns), elite hackers, and savvy investors from across Europe – Estonia, Germany, the UK, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Ukraine. Their singular vision: to construct a powerhouse European defence technology ecosystem. DarkStar has already joined forces with critical entities like Brave1, Heroes & Allies, and representatives from military intelligence and Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, proving their commitment to collaborative strength.
