Ukrainian manufacturer Ailand Systems has announced that its Spinner drone (formerly ST1) has received official codification under the NATO Codification System. The UAV has been assigned a unique NATO Stock Number (NSN), formally recognizing it as the first Ukrainian mine-detection drone to be codified under the Alliance’s standards.

Precision Tools for a Critical Mission

The timing of this standardization is crucial. Ukraine remains the most heavily mined country in the world, a reality that demands technological solutions capable of operating faster and safer than traditional human assets.

Designed specifically for humanitarian demining, the Spinner is a high-precision UAV that integrates advanced sensors to locate threats remotely. According to the company, the system has successfully passed testing by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and has already been utilized in real-world operations to detect mines and unexploded ordnance.

Meeting International Standards

Obtaining an NSN is a key procedure that allows the system to be identified and used by defense forces across NATO member states, facilitating logistics and interoperability.

Dmytro Titov, CEO of Ailand Systems, emphasized the significance of this milestone:

“This was a long and challenging three-year journey – from the first prototype to official NATO codification. We have built the world’s best mine-detection drone. Its mission is to prevent destruction and loss of life, and successful codification is proof of its effectiveness”.

By securing this codification, Ailand Systems not only validates the effectiveness of the Spinner but also opens the door for its integration with NATO standards, bringing a verified, high-tech solution to the global challenge of landmine clearance.
