SHARK-M: The New Ukrainian Drone Outperforming Its Predecessors

Ukrspecsystems, a Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, has unveiled an upgraded version of their SHARK-M reconnaissance drone. This new model boasts a remarkable range of 420 km and an extended flight time of up to 7 hours, pushing the boundaries of UAV capabilities and offering a considerable advantage on the battlefield.

Technical Advancements for Enhanced Performance

The enhanced performance of the SHARK-M stems from several key technological upgrades. The integration of new batteries with a 170% higher capacity contributes to the extended flight time. Additionally, the drone’s communication range has been more than doubled to 180 km, thanks to a modernized radio modem and antenna equipment.

These improvements allow the SHARK-M to operate beyond the reach of enemy weaponry while ensuring stable performance even in challenging conditions like GNSS disruptions, GPS spoofing, or signal interception attempts.

A Cost-Effective and Versatile Solution

Despite being a new product with enhanced features, the SHARK-M remains compatible with existing infrastructure and software, allowing for a seamless transition for operators familiar with the previous model.

“Our main goal was to give the smaller UAV the capabilities of its larger counterparts, increasing its effectiveness and survivability,” Ukrspecsystems representatives told the publication Militarnyi. “They emphasized the cost-effectiveness of the SHARK-M, stating that for the price of a single higher-class system, one could acquire three SHARK-M units.”

The company also highlighted the drone’s versatility, capable of performing a wide range of tasks including reconnaissance, target tracking, and damage assessment. “It performs the same functions as the PD-2, ACS-3 from the Ukrainian Skyeton, the Latvian Penguin, or the Portuguese AR3 Tekever,” the developers explained.

Integrated Reconnaissance and Strike Capabilities

Ukrspecsystems has introduced a comprehensive solution where a single unit can manage a variety of UAVs, allowing for both reconnaissance and strike missions to be conducted independently.

The SHARK-M plays a crucial role in this system by providing continuous aerial reconnaissance and serving as a signal retranslator for precision guidance of strike drones. This system has already been deployed in the field and demonstrated its effectiveness in 2024.

Upgraded Control Center for Enhanced Operations

A new universal remote piloting station has been developed, allowing for the control of any Ukrspecsystems UAV system from a single point. To increase security, the complex features a remote control terminal, enabling launch and landing operations at a safe distance from the main base.

Conclusion

The SHARK-M is poised to redefine UAV capabilities with its impressive range, extended flight time, and advanced features. It offers a cost-effective and versatile solution for various battlefield scenarios, solidifying its position as a game-changer in modern warfare.
