Ukrainian Drone Autonomy Firm ‘Swarmer’ Secures Landmark $15M Series A Led by US Investors

In a landmark deal for Ukraine’s burgeoning defense-tech sector, Swarmer, a pioneer in autonomous drone technology, has closed a $15 million Series A funding round. The investment, led by US-based Broadband Capital Investments, marks the single largest injection of capital into a Ukrainian defense technology company since the full-scale invasion began. The round also saw participation from R-G.AI, D3 Ventures, Green Flag Ventures, Radius Capital, Network VC, and UA1 VC.

This significant investment underscores the growing international confidence in Ukraine’s battle-tested innovations. Swarmer’s cutting-edge software empowers groups of drones to execute missions with a high degree of autonomy, translating human-defined objectives into coordinated, real-time action. This technology has been proven in the crucible of live combat, with the company citing tens of thousands of successful missions.

“This funding enables us to scale our operations and offer advanced swarming capabilities to every unmanned vehicle, in Ukraine and across NATO-aligned nations”, stated Serhii Kupriienko, Founder and CEO of Swarmer. “Western democracies should be able to deploy as many drones and robots as they can produce—without being constrained by the number of trained pilots”.

The scale of drone warfare in Ukraine is unprecedented, with the nation slated to deploy nearly 5,000,000 drones in 2025 alone. This intense operational environment has created a unique ecosystem for rapid innovation. Mykhailo Fedorov, the First Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, praised the deal, saying, “I hope the case of Swarmer…becomes a signal to other investors and a driver for putting more of Ukraine’s most effective technologies into the hands of our defenders”.

Swarmer’s software-only solution is hardware-agnostic, making it compatible with a diverse range of unmanned platforms. The system leverages data from over 82,000 of its own combat missions, as well as millions of others, to train its AI to replicate the performance of elite pilots and make split-second tactical decisions.

Michael Rapp, Managing Member of Broadband Capital Investments, highlighted the company’s unique position: “Swarmer’s rapid pace of innovation is driven by real-world battlefield experience, enabling them to iterate and refine their AI and autonomy systems faster than traditional defense companies”.

As previously featured on TechUkraine, Swarmer has been at the forefront of deploying autonomous drone swarms in combat. The company has already demonstrated swarms of up to 25 drones operating in GNSS-denied environments and has ambitious plans to scale up to combined-arms operations involving over 100 drones of various types. While its primary focus is on defense, Swarmer’s technology has the potential to revolutionize civilian sectors, from precision agriculture and emergency response to infrastructure inspection and environmental monitoring. This investment is not just a win for Swarmer; it’s a powerful statement about the future of warfare and the indomitable spirit of Ukrainian innovation.
